Video Interview

What technological tools do you use in your classroom? How do you feel about technology and education today? What will your classroom look like in ten years? These are the questions asked when I interviewed Miss Annette Diola. I was impressed to hear her answers and felt sad that I had to trim it down. Believe it or not, her answers were quite long. She mentioned that the tools she uses is the typical projector, speakers, laptop, and email. Other than that she also allows her students to utilize their Ipad, Iphone, Ipod, Android, and Kindle during some lessons. Miss Annette also mentioned that she feels technology is just another way of putting different ways of teaching into the classroom. And that in ten years she feels that given the financial issues within the department, it may still take time for schools to adapt the technological advances happening everyday with technology and education.

In conclusion, I enjoyed this project. The tools I used were GoPro, Canon Video Camera, Iphone, Ipad, LoopLabs, and Windows Movie Maker to compile all my recordings and music. I wanted to get a little more creative but to be just a little more creative requires money and more time. Nonetheless, I was very grateful to have Miss Annette give me a little of her time and she was great!

The Value of Podcasts

Teaching techniques may vary, hence the wide usage of technology today. Technology can also be used as a mean of educating students from various types of learners. Podcast is a multimedia digital file made available online for downloading onto MP3 devices. Podcast is a conducive way of teaching through an audio radio and is widely used providing knowledge through the use of internet by means of simply subscribing or downloading. Perhaps, more efficient for teachers when it comes to recording lessons for absentees.

The podcast can be audio files, video files, or documents. The broadcaster podcast the program by posting the episodes to a Web server. The consumer subscribes to the podcast using an application, such as iTunes (Apple, 2012). Podcasts provide information on a whole new level.

Podcasting is a useful tool to acquire as a teacher. And can be valuable if used properly. It is also free and easy to use. Podcast on education is growing. Even so, while technology advances, podcasting is not a threat to teachers, and now we can enjoy audio on the move or create our own feed. This is another alternative to creating a more interesting environment for the new generation of tech savvy students.

Blackboard Collaboration

Blackboard collaborate (formerly called illuminate) is a really awesome web based video and audio conferencing. Together with my group we had tried the 30-day trial version. Jeffrey, who was the moderator, sent everyone a link to join the session. Everyone was able to click the link and it automatically brought us to the session which I found very convenient. Blackboard collaborate has so much to offer. The session looks like the picture attached to this blog.

The blackboard collaborator comes with a whiteboard where all members of the session are able to draw, etc. The only drawback is not knowing what the price is for this product.  Ipad offers this for free but so far has never been able to connect onto any session link.

PLN that works for me!

Twitter has been around for 6 years and it is only now I begun to really appreciate its micro blogging service. I have had an account with Twitter since 2007, but remained inactive. I decided to participate since it is for this course, but after a week of tweeting, I loved it. Twitter is an amazing information network (Twitter, 2012). I personally love it! As a professional learning network, for me, Twitter connects me with the latest stories, ideas, opinions, and news about everything I am interested in. The amount of information coming through from all over the world is just a joy to my daily regimen. I have Twitter apps on my android phone and on my Ipad. However, I mostly enjoy the ease of tweeting  through the Ipad.

My interests is mostly in technology. So I searched for trends concerning only technology. Then I expanded and started following more interesting businesses and people. Which I am now following 74 professionals in teaching, technology, news, institutes, etc. They help create my PLN, making it all the more beneficial for me as an aspiring teacher, and a technology enthusiast. I love the small bursts of information coming from all of over the world. It is the fastest, simplest way to stay close to everything I care about (Twitter, 2012).

A minor issue is the flow of information. Because information is continuous it becomes difficult to find past topics therefore leaving me with no choice but to click favorite. I recently learned about Learni.st and submitted a request to be a part of their network. They have a similar design as Pinterest and that is the style I like. Organizing what I find interesting into boards. I hope Twitter will find an interest in making some changes to their style, but I believe its remained that way because they want their users to read what they can when they can and always move forward. Other than that, I love it!
